Attività formative

The course provides students with the skills to work in the field of biodiversity conservation, from design to planning and implementation of conservation projects, both nationally and internationally. It also provides skills for local conflict management, communication and dissemination,  human dimenstions approach application, pursuing research, welfare and local sustainability objectives.
Educational activities fall into three macro-themes:

  1. Conservation
  2. Research, Welfare and Sustainability
  3. Legislation, Communication and Management

Modules 1:

  • Ecology and biodiversity (i.e. ecology, population genetics)
  • Human-Wildlife conflict and interaction (i.e. conflicts with locals; human dimension)
  • Ex-situ Conservation – In-situ Conservation,
  • Conservation Ethics and Education
  • Environmental disaster management and stranding

Module 2:

  • One health approach and conservation medicine: an introduction
  • Wild animal infectious diseases management (viral and parasitic diseases)
  • Wildlife Welfare
  • Biotechnology for conservation (i.e. de extinction, high tech in conservation)
  • Forensic investigation in wildlife crimes
  • Evolutionary adaptation in the animal world

Module 3:

  • Regulation and Legislation (national and international)
  • Communication, Public Engagement, Public awareness
  • Writing, leading and managing a conservation project
  • Elaboration of an integrated conservation project
